About Me Personally
My heritage is very important to me. My ancestors are primarily from Southeastern England and Northwestern Europe (one of them being my great grandfather who is HG Wells). My great grandmother Amber Reeves, who was HG’s partner, was a deep feminist thinker and taught psychology in London. Her mother Maud, my great, great grandmother, when living in NZ worked actively alongside Kate Sheppard in campaigning for women to vote and on 19th September 1893 NZ became the first country in the world to give women the vote in parliamentary elections.
Home to me is both in the UK and where I reside in New Zealand.
I have lived and worked in Australia, Africa and the UK. I love travelling (especially solo) and because I have travelled extensively, and lived and worked in different countries, I am able to relate to a wide range of people.
I am zealous about health and wellbeing.
I love the great outdoors! I enjoy hiking in the mountains and the bush, as well as swimming in the sea, with my beautiful Labrador Beau. I enjoy dog training, learning dog psychology, and being out in the early mornings walking with a friend and our dog pack (which includes my grand fur baby Louis).
One of my favourite things to do is to go on silent solo retreat (the longest being nearly a month in the UK).
I’m passionate about learning, academia, and writing. I have published journal articles and have co-authored the book Adult Dyslexia: A Guide for Understanding the World of Adult Dyslexics (Click to e-book for purchase ).
I have had the honour of raising two sons who are now adults.
For much of my life I have dabbled in pencil drawing and other forms of art and design as well as playing several musical instruments, my favourite being the piano.
